Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI)
EPI is a disease in which the pancreas does not produce enough or any amount of digestive enzymes.
This deficiency results in maldigestion (poor digestion) and malabsorption (poor absorption).
There is no cure and the affected dog will starve to death without proper treatment.
EPI can be caused by pancreatic acinar atrophy, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer or a congenital abnormality
such as pancreatic hypoplasia.
