  Rehome Your Dog

Are You Trying to Find a

New Home for Your Shiloh Shepherd?

  1. The first step is to be sure that this is really what you want to do.  We've got Shiloh Resources and many people available to help you work with your dog and correct bad habits so he is easier to live with!

  2. If you are indeed committed to rehoming your Shiloh, please fill out our Placement Application form.  This will give us a great deal of information about your dog so we can find the best possible match for your dog.

  3. We will keep your information on file and place a short  summary about your dog on our Dogs for Adoption page and begin interviewing applicants who are interested in your dog.  We also have a database containing contact information for other people that have been interested in adopting a Shiloh.  We will e-mail them with the link to your dog's page on our website, in case they may be  interested in your dog.

  4. Whenever possible, we ask you to keep your dog there in her own home while the adoption process is going on.  It is much easier on the dog than if we have to move her to a foster home, then to the final adoptive home.

  5. If it is not possible for you to keep the dog with you, we will do our best to find a foster home for your dog.  We ask that you provide the foster family with food and cover veterinary costs (if any) for the entire time period that the dog is in foster care.

  6. Once we have the applicants sorted and know who is seriously interested, we will send their Adoption Application to you to review, as well as sending your Placement Application form to them to give them complete details about the dog.  The more information you and the adopter share, the better the chance for making a good match for your dog.

  7. The final decision to place your dog with any of the adoption applicants is yours.  We strongly suggest that you talk to the applicant in detail about the dog and make sure that you are comfortable with the person.  Remember that we are always here for advice or a 2nd opinion if you need us!  But the decision who ends up with your dog is ultimately yours.
  8. Once you have selected a person to adopt your dog, it is helpful if you can arrange with them to visit with you and the dog at least once or twice and then hand the dog off directly from you to that person.  This is always preferable to transferring the dog via a 3rd party transport group, or shipping him to a complete stranger that he's never met before.  It gives the dog a chance to meet and get to know his new owner and makes the transfer less stressful on the dog and all the people involved.  If you live close enough, you could even visit their house with the dog to allow him to get to know it before he actually moves there.
